Earl L. Vandermeulen High School Student-Athletes and Coaches Host Sports Fair at Edna Louise Spear Elementary

Posted Date: 04/14/26 (10:21 AM)

Before heading into their spring break, coaches and student-athletes from Earl L. Vandermeulen High School visited Edna Louise Spear Elementary School for a day of reading, activity, and connection-building with younger students.

High school teams spent time in PreK through 5th-grade classrooms reading books related to their respective sports, introducing elementary students to athletic concepts in a fun and engaging way. The visit continued outdoors, where 5th-grade students rotated through a series of interactive stations designed around various spring sports.

Stations included lacrosse, baseball/softball, track, golf, and tennis. Each station was led by high school coaches and student-athletes, allowing elementary students to learn basic skills, ask questions, and experience each sport firsthand. The event was organized by students in Mrs. Nelson’s high school Sport Event Management class, who coordinated logistics and helped ensure the day ran smoothly.

The purpose of the sports fair was to strengthen connections between high school and elementary students while introducing younger learners to the wide range of athletic opportunities available to them in the future. By fostering these relationships early, the program aims to build excitement, confidence, and a sense of community across grade levels.
