The Port Jefferson School District has once again been honored with the prestigious Best Communities for Music Education Award from The NAMM Foundation, marking the twentieth year the district has received this national distinction.

This award recognizes school districts across the United States that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to providing comprehensive music education to all students. Port Jefferson’s continued inclusion highlights the district’s sustained dedication to fostering creativity, academic excellence, and student engagement through music.

“This recognition reflects the incredible work of our music educators, the enthusiasm of our students, and the unwavering support from our community,” said Dr.  Michael Caravello, Director of Music and Fine Arts. “Music is an essential part of a well-rounded education, and we are proud to offer programs that inspire and challenge our students every day.”

To qualify for the Best Communities for Music Education designation, districts must provide detailed information about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, and community engagement in music programs. Port Jefferson’s programs stood out for their accessibility, breadth, and consistent student achievement. The district offers a robust K–12 music curriculum, including band, orchestra, chorus, and general music education, as well as numerous performance opportunities and extracurricular ensembles. Students regularly participate in regional and state-wide festivals, showcasing their talent and dedication.

As Port Jefferson celebrates this honor, the district remains focused on continuing its tradition of excellence and expanding opportunities for all students to experience the transformative power of music.
