Earl L. Vandermeulen High School senior Sean Grossman was named to Newsday’s list of the top 50 Long Island high school boys cross country runners for the 2026 season.

"Sean Grossman is everything you want in a cross country runner,” Andrew Cosci, head coach of the boys team, said. “He is talented, tough and incredibly dedicated, but what separates him most is how hard he is willing to work.”

Sean was also recognized by Newsday as one of the best cross country runners on Long Island entering the 2025 season. He helped the Royals capture their second consecutive public school Class D team state title and compiled a number of impressive times on iconic trails. His 16:34.9 5K ranked 11th at Queensbury, his 14:07.2 2.5-mile run ranked 18th at Van Cortlandt, and his 17:27.4 5K at Sunken Meadow ranked 23rd.

“Sean has been a huge part of our team’s success, and I could not be prouder of the runner and young man he has become,” Coach Cosci said.
