Port Jefferson Students Use Artistic Talents to Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Posted Date: 10/26/26 (02:48 PM)

The fifth-grade art club at Edna Louise Spear Elementary School, in the Port Jefferson School District, spread hope through their creative works during Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October. In support of the community’s Paint Port Pink initiative, students designed and decorated coffee cup sleeves with pink artwork and uplifting messages to promote strength, kindness and support to those affected by breast cancer.

“This project reminds us that art is more than just something beautiful to look at,” Edna Louise Spear Elementary School art teacher Riley Mulligan said. “It can bring people together, raise awareness and make someone’s day a little brighter.”

The Port Jefferson School District partnered with local business Southdown Coffee for this meaningful project. The coffee shop is handing out these special sleeves to customers throughout October, sharing student artwork with the community and spreading positivity and awareness.
