The Port Jefferson School District Board of Education approved a resolution to move forward with two proposed capital bond projects at its September 13th Board of Education meeting. A community vote on the project will be December 12.

The proposal contains two propositions that cover an array of much-needed facilities renovations. Proposition No. 1, in the amount of $23,127,000, focuses on key instruction and infrastructure needs including improving indoor air quality, maximizing the efficiencies of building spaces, updating bathrooms to meet ADA compliance and enhancing student safety by bringing all programs into the main building at the Middle School and High School. Proposition No. 2, in the amount of $1,876,000, calls for the installation of a turf field at the High School to increase field use playability for all students. Please note, Proposition No. 2 is contingent on the passing of Proposition No. 1.

“Our District has worked hard to maintain our school buildings through regular updates,” Superintendent of Schools Jessica Schmettan said. “This bond is necessary to complete larger scale projects. It restores, renovates and modernizes our buildings.”

More information about the proposed bond is available on the District website. Please visit www.portjeffschools.org/bond/home and save the Dec. 12 date to vote.
