Port Jefferson Middle School sixth graders are advancing in scientific inquiry and a physical science unit is helping them understand speed and acceleration.

In a recent lesson, students discussed speed with teachers Ms. Megan Roth-Ueno and Ms. Christina Marino and teaching assistant Mrs. Elizabeth Cavanagh and came up with ways to measure it. They then took the lesson into their “laboratory” – the school’s multipurpose room – and collected data on a golf ball rolled at a constant speed.
