The Royals varsity football team hosted Mt. Sinai on Sept. 17. The exciting back-and-forth game ended with a Port Jeff score in the final minutes that secured a 13-12 Royals victory. The spectators, players and coaches were extremely happy about the victory, but for head coach Josh Shields the win was a little extra special. It was his first win as varsity head football coach for Port Jefferson.

Coach Shields took over as head coach late last spring, after serving as assistant coach, and has hit the ground running. “The passion and care that Coach Shields has for our student-athletes is incredible,” Athletic Director Adam Sherrard said. “It goes way beyond football; whether it’s helping them with social, emotional, academic or athletic situations, Coach Shields is there to support the team. I am happy for all the coaches and our student-athletes for Saturday’s win. I look forward to seeing them celebrate more victories throughout this season and beyond.”
