The colorful paintings of impressionist Claude Monet were introduced to kindergarten students last year by Edna Louise Spear Elementary School art teacher Meghan McCarthy. When she shared one of those pieces with Director of Music and Fine Arts Dr. Michael Caravello, he knew it was the top pick to feature on the District’s 2023-24 school calendar and directory cover.

Now in first grade, Cooper Nelson was honored for his Monet-inspired tempura pond painting by Dr. Caravello, the Board of Education and Superintendent of Schools Jessica Schmettan at the Sept. 12 Board of Education meeting. They presented him with a framed copy of his exceptional work.

Dr. Caravello encouraged Cooper’s talents and asked that he keep working hard in art so he can continue to inspire those around him with his beautiful artwork.
